Short Story
|
The paladins are the virtuous defenders of the weak and tireless enemies of the undead. Mixing elements of the warrior and the priests of the Holy Light, the paladin is a tough melee fighter. The tradition of the Holy Light is unique to a few of the Alliance races and the blood elves of the Horde.
The paladin is a warrior of the Holy Light. He upholds all that is good and true in the world and reviles all that is evil and sinister — especially undead and the Burning Legion. He offers succor to the beleaguered and smites his enemies with holy fervor. He is particularly potent against undead, as these creatures threaten the goodly races and the Holy Light burns them terribly. The presence of any evil is reprehensible to the paladin, but he focuses his efforts on destroying undead and demons. These warriors uphold the tenets of the Holy Light and defend the Horde from the predations of the Alliance. Found in almost every corner of Azeroth fighting the forces of evil and barbarism, these stalwart warriors of faith ceaselessly uphold their vigil against demonic forces from beyond the Dark Portal. The paladin order, also called the Knights of the Silver Hand, grew out of humanity’s culture, and its greatest heroes and fiercest proponents are humans. Lady Liadrin, formerly a priestess, had recently renounced her vows, for she felt the Light had abandoned her people. She learned of the wizards' achievement and volunteered to be the first to bend the powers to her will. With her decision a new order was born: the Blood Knights. These renegade paladins are able to harness the sacred powers of the Alliance's noblest heroes. High elves rarely become paladins. Paladins are the embodiments of goodliness. They help the innocent and punish the wicked. As such, all paladins are of good alignment.

Paladin responsibilities
Your utility lies in ... well, your utility. Because of this, it's always good to try a little harder.
A term thrown around sometimes as a joke, but the analogy is more appropriate than people credit it for, due to Spiritual Attunement is the "blue rage bar".
For many encounters, there are opportunities for you to take damage in place of someone else. Your "blue rage bar" is filled by protecting your allies and getting healed through that damage--remember, at the end of the day, we're still a defensive hybrid. Like the warrior's rage bar that fills up by dealing/taking damage, you deal damage and get mana through JoWisdom, or take damage and get mana through Spiritual Attunement.
All Paladins must be responsible for protecting their teammates; this is the Divine way. If you can heal, you should. Never forget you have those abilities. Your allies would heal you, if they could.
Protect your teammates.
Guard your faith.
Pray for their swift retribution.

Karazhan
Information for Paladins regarding Karazhan
Righteous Fury is a good talent to activate in here if you are the healer or DPS. Depending on the trash mobs. If you are fighting the AoE pulls cast Righteous Fury and use consecrate while your team kills them. You can keep yourself up if necessary with Concentration aura and holy light.

Attumen the Huntsman
Nothing special about him. If you are healing watch the person he charges because they may get hurt bad.
Moroes
Paladin fear works great here. Depending on whether you are killing one or two adds before killing moroes it is a great start to a fight.
If you kill two, fear the one that is not the initial target. If you kill just one, save it for the hunter in case his trap gets resisted.
Your blessing of protection is very useful for clearing the Garrote off of Clothies or DPS. NEVER the tank. Divine shield can clear it off you if it becomes annoying.
Maiden of Virtue
Very important that you have a Blessing of Sacrifice Macro with the MT in it for this fight. Regardless of DPS or Healer. When she is about to cast repentance, DBM gives a warning, cast it on the MT. While everyone is stunned heal the MT until the other healers are no longer stunned. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Opera
Wizard of Oz
Big Bad Wolf
Your blessing of protection can make red riding hood player immune to his damage and save them, once.
Romulo and Julianne
The Curator
Be sure to spread out, no need for everyone to die to Astral Flare chain bolts. Do not move once in place, unless you are Melee DPS.
Shade of Aran
Cake. Dispel ppl with slow if they get stuck in middle during his Arcane Explosion.
Terestian Illhoof
Even if you are healer or DPS. Cast Righteous Fury, go up to Illhoof judge him with wisdom and cast consecrate to draw all imps in. Have your concentration aura active and just beat on Illhoof the entire time to restore your mana and maintain the consecrate to draw the small imps. You can keep yourself alive by simply healing yourself and consecrate. THIS HELPS ALOT. IF you get sacrificed Divine shield out of it and continue with your task.
Netherspite
Burn your mana, if you need mana jump in the green beam.
Prince Malchezaar
If you are the healer, stand at 33-40 yard range and flash of light heal the MT for Phase 1. At Phase 2 use a downgraded Holy Light, rank 8 or lower, and spam heal the tank the entire time even if he is not taking dmg. Pay attention to the infernal placement, you will have to move at a moments notice if it is stopping the casters or disrupting the tank. Be sure to cleanse all shadow word: Pain. At Phase 3, heal the tank with lower heals again and be sure to heal the person getting hit by his axes now.
If you are melee, enjoy feeling useless because you cannot effectively get into the fight until Phase 3. After phase 2 he stops casting enfeeble. So dispel SW: Pain and run in and out and land a few shots on him here and there. BE SURE TO STAY ALIVE. When he hits Phase 3 beat the snot outta him , the tank will have so much threat you can go ballistic on him.
Nightbane
Fairly simple. If you are a healer use righteous fury again, consecrate grabs the skeletons while he is up in the air and you can just heal yourself. His bone shots are physical dmg so those do not pose a threat either. Make sure to stand on the inner rim of the tower or the outer due to burning ash. The Circle of death goes to highest healer threat usually, if you place yourself correctly you can rotate between outer and inner rim depending on where the Ash is. Collapse to MT position in between Ground and Flight phases for easier transition, don't stand too close to dragon however.
Melee, don't pull hate and draw skeleton aggro during flight phase if possible.
Rotation "System"
Current Rotation
Currently, not in effect.
If you are having difficulty getting into a raid contact Rekane or Volla. You may also contact any Pathfinder.
Gruul
Be sure to read the Gruul's_Lair OOWiki Page for a list of strategies and a visual of where you are supposed to be and whom you are healing/DPSing.
From a Paladin's perspective the fights are fairly tame. Depending on whom you are healing/DPSing. Be sure to bring all your potions/flasks and food. Gruul is the only difficult boss in here. Your High armor value makes you a very durable target for his caveins so use righteous fury if you are healing. Rather yourself than a clothy who cannot withstand more than one or 2 hits.
Remember your place to stand and make sure you pay attention to your heal targets and try not to overlap on anyone else but the tanks. If the tanks die; it is gameover. I found what works best is to stand up close before the ground slam so you can hit a variety of ppl then run to your stone during ground slam. After the slam you can run to your shatter location.
Divine shield does make you immune to shatter. If you find yourself too close to the tanks or anyone else use it to get away.

Paladin Healing Macros
Stopcasting:
Another important thing to point out regarding use of spells is the use of the /stopcasting macros. These, when used in conjunction with a casting bar such as Quartz can greatly increase your HPS, and reduce your over-healing. You can see a sample macro below, for HL11:
#showtooltip Holy Light(Rank 11)
/stopcasting
/cast Holy Light(Rank 11)
The first line simply applies the tooltip of HL11 to the button, it serves no true functionality and can be deleted based on taste. The second line cancels any current cast occurring. THIS MEANS YOU CANNOT SPAM THE BUTTON WHILE USING THIS MACRO. Internal timing (in other words, your head) is key. The last line casts whatever spell you want that macro to cast. I personally have this macro cloned in my character-specific macro window for every HL between 4 and 11, as well as FoL. Yes, this will help with FoL because it compensates for latency and actually lets you cast in 1.5 sec intervals, instead of say 1.6 with a 100 ms cast latency (NOTE, this is NOT the same as your ping!).
